Shift knob
This is probably a silly question. I put a factory short shift kit in my 84 RoW coupe last weekend, which was a breeze thanks to the 101 projects book and the tech article write-up (it shifts better, but I had to relearn where each gear was and what constituted "in gear"--this transmission is still deft compared to most).
In any event, I couldn't get the old shift knob off without completely destroying both it and the sleeve (impressive, I know), so I am happily in the market for an upgrade. If I get one of those nifty looking Momo knobs, do I need to order a factory sleeve/bushing thing to put on the shifter, or does the new knob come with that? Thanks. Andrew |

My old anatomical momo knob was held on by three set screws around the base of it. Then an aluminum collar slipped up and screwed on the bottom on the knob to cover the set screws.. pic to come later
Sorry no pic as I must have chucked the old Momo knob in trash as it was worn the h$ll out. Replaced with factory knob and crush sleve.

The momo knobs do not need the crush sleeve. They come with their own sleeve's. They use a set screw to hold the knob in place. FYI, the knob sits slightly above the lip on the shaft. You really can't tell though unless you are looking for it.
I just did the same project not too long ago. The Momo knob has a much better feel than the old one.

The Momos come with a selection of sleeves for the firmist shaft fit before tightening the three set screws. Treat yourself to a nice one for Christmas!

Is there a correct way of removing the original? I am thinking WEVO but want the original version and OEM knob.

I don't use the factory sleeve.
I put the end of a tie wrap up there and snip off the end sticking out. It's on firm and no problem at removal.

I replaced the knob on my '88 with a knob from Mainely Custom. See the link below. He makes some really neat, somewhat retro. wooden knobs,..but his sleeve is really slick and VERY robust.
http://www.mainelycustombydesign.com/accessories_misc.html Definately a different look and feel from the Momo thing. Rich
