What to do with 3 fuel filters on a 71T

My 71T currently has 3 small silver mahle type fuel filters installed. One just beyond the hard line coming in, and one about 5 inches before each weber. I'd like to replace them for maintenance reasons. Do I continue with 3 mahles in the same place or is there something better I should do????

If you change the filter number/configuration, I assume you'll have to change the fuel lines too.

For example, you could place two filters in series. One could be a coarser filter for the larger chunks. The second filter could be finer, and since larger particles are removed by filter number 1, filter number 2 should last longer.

Or keep the same setup. Is there an issue with changing 3 filters? It's better to have too many than too few as long as pressure and volume specs aren't compromised.

$75-$150 Racor is nice.

I've run a 2 micron filter for over 20k miles without clogging. I always carry a spare element because things happen in that tight range.

I installed a Mercury Marine Water Separating Fuel Filter and (2) Magna Trap #4303VP Inline Filters. I have had this system on for around 10 years.

Those Magna Trap filters are 60 micron filters sold under various brand names. Does your Marine filter trap particles smaller than 60? If so, I'd recommend swapping their positions so the coarser filters are upstream of the main filter.

Please get rid of those glass pos filters..

You could get away with just using one of the Mahle filters... remove as many connections from the fuel system as possible...

you could also get one of those Racors... or something like this or this from Canton.

I believe in keeping the fuel supply system as simple as possible...one really good filter... as few connections as possible

While those "POS" glass filters pose somewhat of a potential fire hazard in case of a collision, they're a convenient way to observe the amount of crud in the fuel supply system. Then again, a separate fuel pump switch might be minimum required equipment.

In the previous setup, the glass filters appear clean, perhaps because the larger marine filter is removing particles smaller than 60 microns. The end result is that the glass filters are basically along for the ride.

Mercury sourced the filter from a mfg and doubled the list price.

Wild guess is that it's a 30 micron filter? chances are Mercury doesn't even know.

Many marine filters are more for big crap control than keeping a carb clean. Marine Rochester carbs clog up faster than Holley's.

Recognizing that the OP says this set up has worked for 10 years or so..

I see ten connections in the fuel line that are not necessary... street, race, who cares, there are that many more potential problems..

Also did ya notice how all the fuel line connections are supported....not

Move those glass filters right up into the the garbage can.

one good filter will do all you need

Thank you for the constructive criticism. I only want the best for my car. I plan to remove the Glass Filters immediately. Any advice on best set up is much appreciated.
