Sunroof removal?

Going for the minimalist RGruppe "R" wanna-be on my '72. When I paint the car - do I kill the sunroof - or not?

TIA,

Stu

Personally I like 'em plenty. They're small but placed perfectly..........I'll probably get flamed but that's life.

Keep it!

Not a cheep or easy project. I have read that unless done right evidence of the work will latter be seen. Best way is a new non SR clip. There is a couple of good threads on this.

No sunroof. To me it is not consistent with a "sports purposes" Porsche.

Ditto - I kept mine & in fact only considered a sunroof car when looking to buy.
A sunroof is a good compromise between the looks and rigidity of a coupe and the openess of a targa.

Removal will lower the value of the car for resale.

If winning a race is an imperative, then maybe remove it.

The car is an original S but hardly resembles what it once was. 'Glass fenders, decks and bumpers, non matching 7R and 915, Stripped R interior (perlon, no dash pad, perspex wiindows, TRE buckets, cage...) so resale to a purist is shot-to-hell anyway!

Helmet space is at a premium for over 6' drivers like myself... The tallest part of pre-'89 cars is at the windshield so removing the sunroof adds at least 1-1.5" depending on how you sit. Personally, I'm sun sensitive and I live in FL... go figure... so I'll be closing mine permanently at some point. I also really like the uninterrupted line of a sunroofless roof. The 901 Shop cuts just inside of the rain rail and replaces the whole roof. You can not tell that any work was done... inside or out.
