owners manual

I've just purchased a 1978 911SC which is my first experience with this marque and am looking forward to learning as much about the car as possible.
I have searched for an owners manual which would have been provided to the original purchaser but no luck here in Australia.
Can anyone help?I don't necessarily want an original copy to keep - a photostat copy or a scanned electronic copy would be ideal.
Thanks
Kevin V

Congratulations on the new purchase, and welcome to Pelican.

I've yet to see a photostat copy of a users manual. Then again I have never looked for one either.

What are you looking to learn about the car? There are a lot of great books out there that will teach you a lot more than the owners manual. Also this website and these forums are a wonderful resource. If you have specific questions just do a search on the website and odds are you'll find your answer.

Even if you don't want to work on your car Wayne Dempseys book, "101 Projects for your Porsche 911" is a wonderful tool. On pelican parts it is part #:BK-131569AP

If you want to work on your car then I would suggest getting the Porsche 911 SC Service Manual published by Bentley. Part Number: PEL-P983

My last Recommendation would be Wayne Dempsey's book "How to rebuild and modify your Porsche 911 engine."

There are a lot of other great books, but those 3 and this website should get you going.

Also a good FREE source of information are the technical articles here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm

Again welcome to the forums, and congratulations on from a fellow 1978 911SC owner.

Also get a picture of the car up, it's a mandatory in your introduction

Rich

Welcome to the forum! Post some pic's of the new ride! This is the best place to be to learn and ask questions about your car. I've learned tons just by reading. Dad has a '79' let me see if he has a manual I could copy. Might take awhile but I'll give it a try. Send me a PM with your snail mail address.

Owners manual

Thanks for the responses. I a little overwhelmed with the enthusiasm of the Pelican forum contributors.
My Porsche911SC is a 1978 Cabriolet (Yes, I'm aware that there was no such model in 1978) which was originally a UK Targa delivery and has been converted to a Cab. I have a few unused dashboard switches for rear windscreen washer, wiper & heater controls.
I have purchased the Bentley Service Manual and 101 Projects books but I was looking to read up on the basics that I'd expect to find in an owners manual (understanding the gauges -esp oil level, service items & intervals, tyre pressures, specifications and so on).
If anyone can help with a copy of the manual I'd be grateful for your advice. Contact me at reldiv@gmail.com
Thanks from 'down-under'.

I am looking for the manual for my 1977 911S but also have to agree that this forum is a great place to get info and feedback. The mentioned books will help a lot too. Congratulations on your new car. I'm loving mine but now winter is here so it becomes a "project."

For some strange reason, it seems most of them go to a collector in Houston.

Original manual available on line for $300, a bentley will tell you all you need, about $75. Best $75 I spent.

Porsche Crest Welcome To The Party!

Hi Kevin, first let me say, welcome aboard! I could not tell from the photo, but is you car left hand drive or RHD? You have a very nice looking Cab!

About the owners manual, in my library I have several Factory Original Owners/Operators Manuals. But... the closest thing that I have for your 911, is a OE manual for a 1977 911S. I know that several changes were made between 77 and the 78 year model vehicles, but there still should be a lot of relevant information to be had from it. If you would like, I could burn you a copy and send it to you. Let me know if you would like to do this. Once again, welcome to the gang, and good luck!! Tony.

It is a very nice cab, congratulations, $300 is what a new ownwers manual sells for, I'm not selling, just passing along what my research turned up. I bought my '83 cab about 10 months ago and the owners manual was missing, the cab manual is tough one to find and tougher to pay for. The dealers say " no gots " Best of luck and buy the Bentley's
