Anyone eliminate rear condensor on 911 A/C?
Anyone eliminate rear A/C condensor on 911 ? Success? Thanks - EPS

I got rid of the rear one and added Performance Aire's underbelly condenser and saw a big improvement.

I eliminated mine this fall and replaced it with a 993 condenser (with fan) in the driver side front wheel well. Works great.

Looking into the wheel well towards the front of the car, the condenser's open side is towards the trunk and the fan side is towards the left fender (air is pulled thru the fan). Here are a few pics. What are the advantages, less weight in the tail, less engine heat??? Do these advantages make the changes worth while?
My "84" has the window washer bottle in the left front fender well. So the alternate would be the belly condenser which has it's pros and cons. Interesting subject... |
I have a condensor in the L/R wheel well with a fan and a heat shield between it and the cat so it does "see" the cat. I made the head shield out of some fiberglass house insulation and two heavy duty throw away aluminum baking pans I got from Smart & Final. I then sandwiched the fiberglass between the two pans and closed them with a desktop stapler. Cost about $3. I've thought of removing my decklid condensor because I have the L/R one and the front one. When I sit in traffic in the summer, it seems the decklid one gets heat soaked.
