Targa Bar Maintenance

What should I use to clean/maintain the black targa bar? I think I read not to wax it. Thanks for any help.

I was at the point that I thought I had to repaint the targa bar, then I was introduced to Mother's Back to Black (by my fellow pelicans). I can't believe how good it looks now. The dry, washed out black bar has been revived! I have applied it twice since last summer. Apply it and wipe it off. Wash the targa bar first of course...

Kirk:

Where did you read not to wax the Targa Bar? Just wondering, since I regularly wax the bar with Carnuba wax.
Thanks.

It was either here, Rennlist, or Autopia. I also read "somewhere" to use 303 Protectant on it.

its fine to wax the targa bar, the issue is that on the older-porous surfaces of the bar it will be hard to get residual wax off

Take it from a long time detailer who tried all kinds of professional products to revive his own Targa bar. the Back to Black works, period.

First take some wax & grease remover (available at your auto paint supply house for a couple of bucks), wipe the bar down, do it again to make sure you got all those years of crap off. Then apply the B to B in a back and forth motion. Let dry, remove by buffing with a cotton towel in circular motion. Repeat.

This will leave you with a beautiful semi shiny bar that stands up well to washes and dirt. The only thing you have to do is wipe the bar down well after washing the car or it will spot. Even if it does, just buff it up again, and you are good to go.

Thanks for the information. The bar is not in bad shape, it's just that all I've ever done is wash it. I've been afraid waxing would mess things up. Here's the plan, let me know if it is no good.
1. Wash
2. Clean with P21S Gloss Enhanching Paintwork Cleanser
3. Wax with P21 100% Carnuba Paste Wax
I've never used the P21S products before, thought they would leave less residue.
