Mocal oil cooler for 911

Has anyone replaced their trombone style oil cooler for the Mocal kit offered by Pelican?

I installed one in my 76 a few years ago. New lines, mocal t-stat & oil cooler. The car didn't have a factory system installed. Pretty straight foward installation.

Many would probably like to how the Mocal ($305) compares, bang-for-buck, w/ the factory Carerra cooler kit ($915).

I have a 2.7, with no front cooler. On a spring New Mexico day and a little spirited driving temps would exceed 255 and still be climbing when I would shut her down. Installed the Mocal 44 row with lines and stat and have yet to see 240 even on a 100+ degree day and letting her rev.

I have a Mocal on my '77s 3.2 conversion. It makes a lot of noise. When the thermostat opens up I can hear a loud gurgling noise as oil flows through the lines. I'm not sure whether this is caused by the lines or the cooler itself. I got the car this way but the installation looks correct. Anyone else have this problem? By the way my car will see 240 on a 90+ degree day when I run the AC. And that's with the pelican "oil cooler scoop" installed.

I don't if one will work better than the other, but the Carerra kit will "fit" better. The mocal unit is has generic brackets that can be used or modified to fit any car. I had to make a couple brackets when I installed mine. The Carerra kit has the correct brackets to mount in the wheel well. I don't think the brackets are worth $600.....

I too am very interested. I have a " factory trombone" cooler and am considering an upgraded cooler (trombone cooler is OK at best, I'd like to see some real temp. drops). Don't like many things that are after market (unless it's very impressive) especially if it doesn't look OE. I beleive a fantastic cooler should be able to do a decent job without having to gut & cut bumpers/fenders. Mocal looks interesting, but would love to know what temp. changes have been seen & installation queries good/bad? FWIW the gurgling is a good thing, it's the sound of the oil flowing to & fro (I hear it too). You should hear a Testarossa in 100+ degree Miami traffic (coolant is much louder).
