Cool Oil temp guage- newbie question

OK here's my stupid newby question of the day. It looks like my oil temp guage may not be working. It looks like it moves a little, but the needle barely gets off the bottom. All other guages and electronics work fine. What do you think I should trouble shoot first? Thanks for the input.

it may not be faulty. sometimes my oil temp stays low, it depends on your driving habits and your climate. i believe if the sensor were faulty it would peg at the top level immediately on start up and stay there.

The gauge can go bad, too. Mine did. Odds favor the sender being bad, so I'd check/replace that first. If the gauge still doesn't move much, replace that. Mine did the exact thing you describe.
