Converting Motronic to MegaSquirt II ?

......................OK guys................I have searched this forum and I did not find my answer. I'm considering going a different route now. I have my hot-rod 3.4 ('85 Targa) and WAS going to upgrade the stock Motronic unit per Steve W and then burn a custom chip. Cost = $550.
I have a plastic 964 intake and WAS planning on using a MAF convsersion kit from Lindsey Racing + their controller. Cost = @$800+

I am now considering the Megasquirt II with auto tune (and am retaining the stock ignition) This set-up SEEMS much cheaper and simpler.

- BUT -

Has anyone here performed this exact conversion from motronic to Megasquirt II AND retained the stock speed and reference sensor for the ignition signal ? If so please be specific and detailed. Many thanks in advance
