Electric Car Accelerates Faster than a Porsche 911?
This link was posted to my local NASA forum and it's very interesting - an eight wheeled electric car, each wheel with 100hp motor. It's called an Eliica, and it goes up to 370kph and supposedly accelerates faster than a 911. All for only $300K - not yet in mass production.

Unlike an internal combustion engine which needs to achieve a certain RPM, all the torque in an electric motor is available immediately.

Also electric motors can be heavily overloaded (like to 300%) for a short period of time.
