Door Latch Removal

Gentlemen,

A simple question regarding my broken door latch: Is it necessary to remove the latching cam (circled in picture below) to remove the latch mechanism or can it be maneuvered through the hole? If it must be removed, how or with what?

All of the forum pics on door latches etc. seem to show the cam broken off which makes removal very easy obviously.

Thanks in advance and HAPPY NEW YEAR! (Go Utes!)

Just speculation as I have not done it but from the looks of things, I believe the cam will fit through the opening. You can measure the widest part of the cam and also the diameter of the hole to confirm but it looks to be so from your picture. It doesn't make sense that the cam would be installed after the mechanism is put into the door at the factory. Just my $.02.

I've done this a couple of times, and yes the latch will fit throuogh the opening.

It will come out. Can't tell from your picture but the window frame has to come out as well. Just the back on a targa and the whole thing on a coupe.
