Can this fender be repaired?
The seam area of my left fender has some rust damage. It is isolated to the spot where the clamp is for the washer bottle filler hose which holds the hose in place along the fender seam. First of all, why would the factory do such a dumb thing??? This is just another major dirt and moisture trap. Actually, I noticed this problem 23 years ago when I purchased the car and removed the washer bottle and hose at that time. So nearly all this damage is due to just the first 8 years in which I didn't own the car (hard to believe, but it was a daily driver - unfortunately in PA, not TX).
Anyway, this job has been on the back burner for years, but since the car is off the road for many other items, I thought I might pull the fender and try to address this problem now as well. Should I pull it first and see how much metal is left before deciding whether I need to purchase a new fender or if this one can be salvaged? The rest of the fender (at least what I can see while one the car) is clean. thanks, Frank

yes it can be repaired.
remove the fender, cut out the rust area and weld in a new section. Fender needs to be repainted. |
