Exhaust replacement

Looking at the underside of my car it is obvious that the exhaust system will need replacing sometime in the near future. My question is do I need to use a bypass for the cat and do they make one with mounting for the O2 sensor, the DME does require one to be installed to work properly I would imagine. Considering headers with dual exhaust. Is there a way to make an opening on the passenger side for the tip to fit out like on the drivers side? For those of you that don't notice my car description under my name it a "86" 911 coupe with the 3.2. Don't want anything real loud but would like to know its there when getting on the accelerator. I know many of you have been through this and look forward to your input. Do not want to lose my heat or any other comfort items. Any pros and cons to using stainless steel.

I too run and 86 coupe. I run stock heat exchangers with a Maxspeed cat-bypass (EBay) and a B&B dual outlet exhaust. It is loud in the cabin over 3,000rpms so it's loud all the time. If the cat bypass does nothing else it's lighter and does have an O2 sensor bung. Count on replacing the O2 sensor at $130. I also removed my engine compartment sound deadening so I am sure that doesn't help the noise factor. The B&B sounds and looks (dual outlet) great. The cat bypass did make it a little louder and feels quicker. I can't wait for an upcoming SW chip.

Saw this link while contemplating same issue.

Very happy with mine. Went with SSi's to M & K dual in and out. The SSi's have an option for a O2 sensor socket. One note the M&K is a little loud but they have a block off plug that goes inside the passenger side tip. Totally hidden, it goes almost in the muffler. Cuts sound about 30%. This system gives you the best of both worlds. I would not have any other muffler. I have one heat exchanger connected, it works very well. Check out pics below. Good luck.

Did you eliminate one of the heat exchangers, looks as if both are still on the exhaust? Can both still be hooked up with that exhaust setup? I like the video showing how to make the opening for the second exhaust outlet. I already have the SW chip and it makes a big difference. Just doing my research now as I know exhaust is coming in the near future.

Janz, you can hookup both but you have to do some custom work with the heater piping. The headers and heat exhangers are one piece. The hot air around the header is piped into the passenger compartment. That said, my heater is basically working at 50% capacity. Luckily the SSi's do a much better job than the factory set up so my loss is basically 25%. Since I am in Florida, I can get by with just one. I am sure some Northern folks can chime in if you can get by with my set up in your neck of the woods. Steve Wong Rocks!

I would suggest ssi's and a single outlet you get the best of both worlds and no need for the second tail pipe for a stock 3.2 unless you just want the look which you can block off if you like
