Thinking of switching a whale for a duck

I have an 83 cab, platinum over cork, with a whale tail and front chin spoiler. I am thinking about replacing the whale tail with a duck spoiler, anyone have any advice or better yet any pictures? I have not seen a true cabriolet with a duck spoiler, but I would like to. I'm a little concerned about the look at this point, but the whale can be a little over bearing to me at times. Any thoughts?

Which tail is on the rear now? A turbo or carrera style ?

Good question, it is the original tail that came on a '83 cab, carrera I believe.

I think a whale/tea tray, or even a Carrera tail, can be a bit much for a narrow-bodied car. So I'd go for the duck, personally.

Quack...1 vote for the duck.

Duck, no doubt.

I did it on my 83 cab....the whale is too....Miami Vice.

I went further and backdated the body. But big old tea trail was a bit of a poser item.....

Even on a wide car, I prefer a duck.

I think cabrios look better with no tail. The aero is screwed up anyways, not like a tail is going to make anything other than a visual difference.

If they were designed to have a duck let them have a duck.

If the whale tail was from the era of the car let them have a whale tail.

If they are a turbo let them wear the tea tray.

It was all for a reason that the factory spent all that time and man power designing what tail for the current model.

It is rare that a spoiler from an other era, past or future looks good on a car that it wasn't designed for.

It's a whole package that goes together for a reason.

IMHO

I agree with you about "the correct tail" and I always really liked the tea tray it came with, but of late the duck is growing on me. I would like to get a complete lid with a duck so I could switch them from time to time. From the photo's shown thus far I like it more and more.

I've thought about getting a duck as well, but I've only seen one picture. I forget whose it is, but it's a white cab with a rollbar. I think his name is Mike something. I'll see if I can find it. I'd like to see more pictures too. I just don't think they're out there.

Agree. Cabs look best clean with no tail.

Aah, I knew there was one. Thanks, Mike. For those of you interested, he's got several more pictures of it on his website, linked in his signature.

I rather like the look of the whale tail, for me it's part of the 80s Porsche styling. I could be biased though... :D

I wouldn't put a tea tray on a narrow body, that would be too much I think - too... chunky.

That ducktail looks interesting though.

I would agree with that. However, no '83 or an '88 came from the factory as a narrow body...
