Finally a Great All-Season Street Tire.
The General Altimax SP was an unexpected find, economical with amazing performance and U.S. made.
Here is where I am coming from. We use Michelins on our daily drivers and company vehicles and love them. I had Michelin Pilots on the Porsche but do not drive it daily (more like weekly, if I get to it)… like all Michelins I noticed that they rot in our high-humidity weather and the sidewalls crack. The set of Pilots were wasted as the sidewalls rotted and cracked with little mileage on them. Not wanting to spend the money I made the mistake of trying Toyo (horrible experience) and Sumitomo (often recommended on this forum but frankly the worst tire I have ever had). Both the Toyos and Sumitomo did not have much grip and were totally unpredictable. I was totally impressed while driving a friend’s M6 and expected to find an overpriced high-performance tire… after inquiring found that it was something I was totally unfamiliar with. I bought them for the Porsche and WOW, performs quite like the Pilots but without the price or side-effects. Tirerack agreed and highly recommended the General Altimax SP. Total cost installed was under $400. It has been six months and the tires perform wonderfully, I also have the great advantage that it is All Season so I do not have to be careful with freezing temperatures. This is obviously not a tire for track driving or for speeds above 130 mph. But it is very predictable, grabs the road and does great in heavy down pours. I do not take the Porsche out in snow so I have no idea how they do in snow. Also I had a technical question and called General in Charlotte, NC, within minutes I had my question answered with great customer service! They have by far exceeded any expectation and that is rare for me these days! This one is worth considering. Don’t take my word for it, see the Tirerack reviews.

That's the first time I've ever seen anything negative written about Toyo tires. I've found them to be outstanding.

Are you located in the Netherlands? Is this tire rotting you mention common there?
