Carrera Script Placement

I've ordered some light grey script for my black '84 but haven't seen the spec on how high above the door or rockers they should be placed. Anyone out there know that measurement?

Joe Bob 01-04-2009 01:16 PM

Line it up with the trim on the bumpers.....

theclaw 01-04-2009 01:33 PM

Not too sure what you mean.

Joe Bob 01-04-2009 02:24 PM

Center it with the trim on the front and rear bumpers. Most of them have been replaced over the years. If someone has the "huevos" to suggest it's wrong, suggest that they have too much to drink or they are an idiot....or both.

theclaw 01-04-2009 02:44 PM

Well, I've been know to drink too much. And, I won't admit it but some say I've acted like an idiot on occasion. So for the sake of clarity it's something like this:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231112596.jpg

When I stretched the tape across it looks like the front bumper is a bit higher up than the rear. So technically, the front edge does not center the bumper trim exactly. But you see where I'm going. Yeah, I know the tape is not straight. This is just to illustrate what I think you are referring to. Right?

stormmaster 01-04-2009 02:49 PM

I just did mine. Proper spacing is 2'' above black rocker molding. I cant remember the exact spacing of the letters on the right and left side but there is a post on here you can do a search to find.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231112992.jpg

Joe Bob 01-04-2009 02:51 PM

Ummm, that would be correct.

Joe Bob 01-04-2009 03:06 PM

Oh...BTW, I forgot....side valance is not something you use as a reference.....lose it. Here's my 83 SC......

http://nbd.4nets.com/wordpress/wp-co...whitegreen.jpg

Since I removed the SC bumpers and did the back date I move the Carrera srtipe even lower.

peon77 01-04-2009 03:10 PM

Thats great stuff Mike. The lettering should be 50mm above the door lower edge. On the left door the C should start 10mm behind the forward door edge. The right door the point of the a should touch the the forward door edge. If you follow these steps you wont have to shoot any one and if sombody tells you your wrong you can tell them it is according to the Porsche workshop manual.

Pete

Like I said....screw the manual....place it where you think it looks right and blame the other guy for being cockeyed.....I've dealt with SO MANY comments...it don't look right people..... and I say...OK.....

Here's a freebie....they then come back later and say....hmmmm, here's a free beer....

They have been replaced SO MANY times and the next owner swears the graphics are original......

I saw "Yellow Bird"....Otis Chandler's ride.....fake repro crap on the butt....guy had it at a local shop before he passed, I even took a ride in it.....

Of course what I send out is the fake RS and the real RS on the same sheet...they call me and say WTF....I say.....what looks good to you....never have a problem anymore.....

I let the customer choose...who am "I" to correct an expert?

peon77 01-04-2009 03:43 PM

Some members do get too caught up in fanatical persuit of perfection with our cars. Jeff asked for some measurements placing the decals. I gave him measurements that are right and easy to do at his home. Now he has options. He can put his lettering anywhere he likes who am I to tell a man where to put his stickers.

Joe Bob 01-04-2009 05:08 PM

Your directions be fine with me......

theclaw 01-05-2009 03:35 AM

I'll post the final results. Thanks for all of the input.

ruby911 01-05-2009 03:47 AM

How about the 'Carrera' on the decklid? Does anyone have any specs on where exactly that goes? The 911SC logo appears to be mounted in holes and the Carrera logo is adhesive - right?

Jeff- didn't know you were going to do a light grey script. I have a set in light silver-grey that Mike Z made for me but decided to go red instead. Let me know if you want them along with the front spoiler.

Thanks. Why don't we compare colors before I stick them on. Besides, I might need a back up if I booger up the first set. Whatever is left over we'll put in the community pot.

I ordered a rear emblem and eyeballed it the other night without taking the backing off. I'm going with it.

MassGuy 01-05-2009 07:07 PM

Its a nice easy job. You really cant screw it up.

Has anyone done flat black on a black car?

mikeferg75 01-06-2009 09:07 AM

This one is "correct" higher than you think ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231265199.jpg

Heck mine is to low, but I'm not the one that installed them, and it's not a big enough deal to me to redo it.

I have the factory dimensions from the 1973 Carrera RS if anyone is interested. At least you will know how they were installed originally.

theclaw 01-08-2009 03:25 AM

can you post them?

The top of the solid block portion of the sticker, should line up with the gap between the rear bumper and the rear quarter panel.

This is not a exact measurement, but something that I noticed looking at low mile original paint cars online, and seeing a few in person as well.

If it were me, I'd look around for a original paint car for sale and email asking for a favor.

1. Mark front and rear location of lettering [50mm] above the door lower edge.
2. left door: Align the letter "C" 10mm behind the forward edge of the door.

All other vehicles are furninwhen with black lettering.

Heat the lettering with air heaters, infra-red lamps etc. to the opint where it can be peeled off without pulling the paint off in the process. Wash remaints (sic) of adhesive off the paint surface with a cleaning solvent. [ have used naptha]
