Do I need new heat exchangers b-4 upgrading A/C?
I'm looking to get a couple projects out of the way this winter while my 83SC is in storage. My top priority is getting my a/c updated and working a bit better for next summer. I also need to get a new set of heat exchangers at some point, since they are pretty rusted, but I never drive when it's cold enough to need heat, so that is not as big a deal to me right now. A new mechanic that I tried a little while ago told me that I had to replace the heat exchangers first or any upgrades to the a/c would be pointless. That seems counterintuitive to me, but I figured I'd check with the group here to see if there is any merit to it, or if he was just trying to bilk me for some more cash. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Unless he means condensors and/or the evaporator, heat exchangers have nothing to do with the AC.

Thanks. I should have prefaced the thread with "this is a stupid question". I couldn't think of any connection, but figured why not ask the experts. Looks like I'm not going back to that guy for future work.

AC improvements are very DIYable, but there are lots of ways to skin that cat. You can't search on AC but this thread will give you lots of info:
