Talbot mirror on a mid year
Thinking of trying a chrome talbot on a 77, but I wonder if the base will cover the mounting holes from the current factory flag mirror. I know these were factory options to replace durant mirrors, but haven't seen one on a later model. Dumb idea, or no?

Not a dumb idea, but it wont cover the holes, you need to weld them up.

There is a Talbot style mirror advertised on eBay that comes with two different mounting options, one of which is a larger base to cover the holes. I don't have a link but just search eBay for "Talbot mirror". Been shopping these myself for my 72, upon which a tasteless PO saw fit to bestow flag mirrors.
Edit: found 'em again - looks like its offered by the Sierra Madre collection - no affiliation, just providing info...
