964 Cams on a 3.2

Not sure if this has been discussed before but im sure it has. My question is, I'm looking into getting a set of 964 cams for my 3.2 Carrera. Wanted to know if anyone who has done this and if they noticed any gains of power.

Also how hard it the install, will I have to drop the motor? I have a SW chip, will I have to send it out and reprogram it for having the cams? Any other advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

The only thing I know, is that you need to drop the engine, in order to make easy access for what you are doing... Cam timing is very important...

If you do cams - do exhaust - doing one without the other - in my opinion would be a waste of time.

Just an FYI, I don't think 964 cams are a direct drop in for a 3.2L car. I believe you have to have a gear that drives the power steering cut off maybe some other modifications as well.

Or you could pull your cams and have them reground to 964 specs.

Contact Steve W. he can tell you what you need to do in terms of reprogramming your chip

Good luck
Rich

Typically, you have yours ground. Yes, you drop the motor. You will also have a bit of work in cam timing, new timing chains, ramps and sprockets, refurbing your rockers and some sealing of the chain boxes. A moderately difficult job, definitely not like doing it on a Chevy small block. I don't think I'd swap cams if I wasn't doing more work on the motor. I think a chip and headers are the best bolt-on improvements, and if you do go to cams at some point, it will help round out the equation.
