901 tranny testing
Hi,
is it possible to test a rebuild 901 tranny prior to putting back in the car? E.g. can the shaft rod be turned in ways which correspond to individual gear changes? I only swapped the synchros but it would be good to have a "reliable" test prior to installation. thanks JM |

You should be able to use the shift rod and engage all the gears manually.

Absolutely, Just clamp the shift coupler in place with the grub screw or use a pair of vice-grips on the select shaft. You will be able to feel each shift fork gate and select each gear. new syncros might be a bit tight to engage and The dog-teeth may not align easily with the input shaft not turning. Just rotate a drive flange to counter-act this problem.
