Dizzy help and questions (with pics)

Ok......here's the background.

My car is a '77S with Pertronix. The wire from the Pertronix unit got frayed from the rotor and broke off.

I bought a new Pertronix unit from our host.

Through searching I understand I've got to set the static timing.

Here's how the dizzy was set when I opened the cap with the car at TDC

I set the crankshaft to Z1

Pulled the dizzy and set like this

Car idles perfectly, but runs rough. Searched some more and saw an article about valve adjust with this picture on how the dizzy SHOULD be set?????

I guess I've got the dizzy screwed up.......what's correct?

Thanks for your patience and help.

The picture from the valve adjustment is only to show how to set the dizzy so that the engine starts. You have to check the timing with a timing light. This is the best way. If you don't have a timing light, you can advance the dizzy until you start to get detonation with a load and full throttle - like going up a hill. Once you get detonation, back off the timing a little. This is not recommended as these cars are sensitive to detonation and some cannot tell when detonation occurs. You really need to check the timing with a timing light.

Thanks Aaron.......that's what I thought. In looking at my 101 and Bentley, it never showed a rotor like mine so I wasn't sure where to line it up.

I will get a timing light as well.

Thanks

in the top picture you have the ground for the rev limiter pointing to #1. the center contact moves outward as RPM's go up until it makes contact with the ground.
