A couple of ?'s

Hello everyone. I have a couple of questions.
1. Regarding my heat: When I lift the levers in the center and turn the dial by the e brake it seems as though nothing happens. I can't hear anything running and it only seems to get mildly warmer in the cabin. When I turn on the defroster vents I can hear and feel the fan working. Is my heater blower in the engine compartment shot? If so I remember reading somewhere that I can just replace the foot blowers to achieve adequate heat. Any tips or help regarding what to do wold be greatly appreciated.

2. I believe I have a leak somewhere in my car. I have driven her in the rain and never noticed any kind of leaking but last month she was parked outside during the rain and when I got in the floors were wet. I didn't feel water any where else, only the floors Once again any help or ideas on where to trouble shoot I would greatly appreciate. By the way I have a 1984 Carrera.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris-

Not sure on the leak, but it sounds like the rear blower is shot. I had the same problem on my '87 and it was the blower. Apparently the relay back there looks for the load from the rear blower working before it will let the footwell blower kick so I would look at the rear blower first. It could also be the relay back there, but you can simply test the blower to see if it's good by hooking it to a battery or charger to see if it kicks on. Mine was dead as a doornail, so once I replaced it the footwell blowers came on and all was toasty.

Good luck.

You might try a few searches on both of these topics - fairly common problems. My car leaked a little into the floor in the back seat when I first got it, but has stopped since I got water flowing out of the sunroof drains (you can see them when you open the trunk on both sides of near the base of the back window. Windshields are also common leakers if it is wet in the front seat floorboard.

The center knob should make a bunch of noise when working and pushes a good amount of air for heat and defrost. The system is more than adequate when operational.

Good luck.

It could also be something as simple as dirty contacts in the rear fuse box or relay connections. My rear blower didn't work just because the fuse was a little loose in the holder.

To check the rear blower, turn the ignition key on (with the motor off) and lift the levers. You should be able to hear it running. Sounds like a hair dryer in the other bedroom.

Can't help you on the water problem, but it does like to run down the forward door jam if the door isn't shut tight.
