Side Rubber Removal?

What lies underneath the side rubber and the lower valance on an early '89 Carrera?
I would like to remove these pieces but don't want to have to paint, fill holes, etc.
Thanks,
Drums

This should help explain what you'll find. nice user name, BTW. You play?

Is there a definitive guide to rocker panel replacement?

EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were a new guy. I probably already asked you if you play drums. Duh.

Less than I used to.....DW 6 piece Collector Series, no reinforcing rings, fast sizes, prefer the copper snare, Sabian cymbals, Dw hardware.....
Thanks for the reply.
You play?

I just followed the link you gave. I just want to remove the rubber side bumpers.
The paint looks good underneath.
I will look for a good side picture.

I used to play, too.

So you want to just remove the rubber part from the rockers? They live in a channel and just slide in.
I found these in the for sale section. Gives you a good idea of what's under the rubber.

Thanks.
I want to remove the lower moldings, too. There are 2 brackets that hold the rubber strips in place and some lower moldings just below those.
You don't play at all now?!

See the piece running below the rubber? That is my main concern. The paint under the rubber looks fine and there are only 2 brackets at each end holding the rubber pieces on.
What is underneath the piece below the rubber strips?

My kit is packed away but i never stop "being a drummer" I tap on everything and even practice double kick exercises while I have my daily driver on cruise.
Nice DW kit, BTW!!!!! I bet it sounds great. Mine is a custom Ludwig I bought in my senior year of high school. It was my first loan from a bank.

There is a thread about Pelican drummers you should check out. Ok, I found quite a few.

back to your question:

If you remove the side rocker panels you will expose the frame of the car. It most likely isn't very pretty. You will have to weld up/patch small screw holes to clean it up. The jack plug will also be exposed. I hope this helps out.

Yes, it never leaves the blood or brain...tapping everywhere from birth is the sign of a potential drummer.

I will go ahead and pull the rockers just to look at what lies beneath.
Thanks for everything and unpack those Ludwigs!

How did you stuff those huge wheels in the wheel wells? Are those Turbo flares?

Actually, they are factory 993 wheels 16X9 on 245/25 tires under stock SC flares. I had to run adapters/spacers to fit the wheels. I think I had 2.25 inch spacers on the rear.

So they were from an early 964?
I kept my 16 x 8 rears and used 1" spacers. Fronts are 16 X 7, no spacers.
I like the width of the 9" rims. They look great on your car and I am sure, helped the rear end stay glued to the pavement!

If I'm not mistaken he body work is slightly different on G50 (87-89) cars in the area of the torision bar hole.

Dueller is correct, the opening for the torsion bars is different, and I think the outer rocker panel is slightly different in appearance as well. I'll be pulling mine off to reindex my rear torsion bars soon and install aftermarket spring plates, then I'll decide whether to leave them off or put them back on.

The wheels I bought were from a 95 993. I have since gone back to a stock looking wheel.

The torsion bar access holes are a larger diameter on the G50 cars. I left my covers off as the mounting flange broke and I didn't feel the need to buy new ones, have them painted, etc. You can barely tell they aren't there when the rockers are in place.

On the picture above they look like they were made for the car. They fit perfectly! They fill the flares perfectly!
