Timing cover Gasket
Hi all,
1979 911 SC Looks like I have an oil leak for my left rear timing cover. Can this be replaced without engine drop. Its a little dark now and I cant see if that metal shroud can be removed to gain access. Had a search threw threads but cant find my answer. Thanks Dave Ireland |

You may need to remove the muffler and the tin around the back of the engine, but it can be done in the car.

do you mean , rear of the left cam housing ? that leak could be many things! rocker shaft, cam housing seal, cam housing gasket, valve cover gasket. be cautious when diagnosing a problem like this. you should degrease everything in that area then run the car at 2000 rpm for 10 min or so, and try to see where the oil is seeping from. with the engine in the rear, air cooled fan blowing, oil can be pushed all over the place.
good luck
