Aluminized or all stainless muffler?

I'm looking at a stock replacement muffler for the SC. From what I understand, the Dansk stainless is *all* stainless and the Dansk aluminized has stainless internals and an aluminized outer shell. I'm in Arizona so I'm not too worried about corrosion but I still want it to last a long time. Besides the cheaper cost is there any down sides to an aluminized muffler?

Also, if a stainless muffler is, indeed, all stainless, why paint it grey?

Thanks...

I painted mine grey because I didnt want to have to keep polishing it...and it gives it a more stock appearance....even though it is a custom one off from M&K

You could pick up a used Carrera muffler. They are stainless, seem to last just about forever, and are super cheap because everyone upgrades them. Buy a new tip and it'll look as good as new.

Oh, and stainless will still rust, albeit very slowly.

I've found while searching that the stainless will rust though perhaps surface rust at most. If that is the case can a Dansk aluminized muffler be that bad (longevity-wise)? Has anyone here purchased one?

jasonlee,

Thanks, I have a stock muffler currently on my car, it's just shot and does not sound near as quiet as other stock mufflers I've heard. I'm hesitant to buy a used one for that reason. I'm just looking for some guiet as well as the OE look.

Ben,

From what I've read you make some great products. Unless I'm mistaken you don't make an OE "quiet" muffler... true? If you did I'd be tempted although I am trying to maintain a stock appearance.

Can you comment on the longevity of the aluminized vs stainless?

+1 on great product....great customer service ...and an all around great guy as well but I am a little biased...Of all the mufflers he has sold to members on this board I don't know of any that have been disappointed

THe major contributer would be how its used. the more usage the less requirement for stainless as the moisture is not left in the canister. however I am fairly certain NO dansk has stainless internals so moot point really.

Yes really I do not make stock sound levels but we are fairly close with some of our models.

Best of luck

Contrary to what Ben is shoveling here, the Dansk mufflers that are stainless are indeed stainless steel throughout, both inside and out. I've been in the factory many times, seen the materials, seen the production. Perhaps one should bother to educate themselves prior to making comments that appear authoritive.
