ZINMETALIC color... pics please

I am trying to get a visual of what this color looks like.

The 82'SC I am restoring has that sticker on the rear under the lid and PCNA's COA states the same color, HOWEVER, when I bought a chip book of the Porsche colors for either side +/- 5 yrs their is no Zinnmetallic... not even any vw or audi...

The door jam does not have the riveted in plaque as thet stopped those on some earlier model.

The rear sticker says the following:
956 9 3
Zinnmetallic
U 3
***all of these 3 above code lines are stacked this way***

Can someone please post what this color should look like... I posted this q on the paint & bodywork forum this AM and no answers

If you can post a pic, can you describe what the color looks like... I am under the impression it is a very lite goldish ~ tan of SILVER. The color is probably 80%+ Silver, right?

Thanks!
Bob

I am kickin' my heels guys!!!!!!!!!! F'ng PERFECT!!!!!!!! I AM SOO STOKED as the car has possibly the original paint!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the exact color of the resto I am working on!!!! Sweet, Sweet, SWEET!!

JR_NYC that is the exact color code decal on my engine rear lid area also!!

A home run here guys!!

Now, can anyone else post their cars as I am considering mods and it would be great if I could see on a car that is this same color so I can see what it would look like if I was to do such a mod??

This makes my so psyched guys,,, you dont know how stoked I am right now!!

Any one able to answer my other questions I posted, I'll re list them:
1. why was this color not on the 82' color chip porsche book?
2. Was this color a special order color?
3. Where can I get a "chip" bottle of the paint?? What also brought me to these q's is that I want to remove the front fenders and the bolts in the front trunk are/will have their paint chipped and I was asking how NOT to chip the paint in the body forum w/ "0" answers... AND know that I know what you have helped me with, can I buy touch up bottle of this color and where?
4. going back to the porsche color chip book, I did not find this color going +/- ~ 5yrs as an offered color, if at all, my memory serves me AND it was not a vw or audi color either... sio where did it come from as you all have this color too??

Thanks a ton!!!!!!!!!!! YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYy eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HHHHHHHH aaaaaWWWW

Bob :-)

Here is a picture of my 82 SC with the same color...it is a great 10' car. I have not been able to locate any touch up paint in the original color.

The original owner lowered it to the German spec.

Enjoy the project.

1984 UK RHD 3.2 in Zinn

Not a special order colour/color in Europe.

By the way, all my German work colleagues insist that it is Tin not Pewter. A search in a dictionary gives…..

Das Zinn = Tin.
Das Hartzinn = Pewter.
Das Zinngefäß = Pewter.
Das Zinngeschirr = Pewter.
Der Zinnkrug = Pewter.

great info and pics guys!!
You know what just struck me is I love how the car goes from black to the paint color EVERYWHERE except for the polished ~ silver colored part of the fuchs...
Can anyone photoshop inthe car color on the fuchs to see if it looks good or possibly too much of the car color... some cars that do this create too much of the 1 color/cars color...

So we all have "Tin" NOT "Zinn" metallic colored cars... ;-)

Does everyone have Black color interior? My resto is Black interior.

Is there any more info you guys can post about what yr(s) this color was offered, the 956??

What does the "U3" on the bottom of the paint code mean??

David... did you buy any touch up paint from the "paintscratch" you posted and was it any good?? color match? any + - you can tell us all abouththe paint?

Bob

if someone can photo shop in the cars color only on the silver part of the fuch, that would be great!!!

I personally don't like the entire wheel painted the car color or all Black wheels..

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Again,

A bit more information, according to a UK paint supplier (that I have used to get a good matching paint from) Zinnmetallic 956 was offered on model years 81 to 83 (even though that would make it an SC colour and some of us have it on 84 3.2s) and was also a VW colour with a code of LM7V for model years 81 to 84.

Mark

Mine has a blue interior

SilverWT... thanks for the info... what size & brand wheels & tyres are you running? Are you lowered to euro height...I would guess as your signature is from England?

My documentation shows that Porsche called it Pewter Metallic. Maybe their translator got a "C" in English. One of my favorite colors regardless. Petrol blue is another one of my favorites.

Here's a couple of my 83 SC RoW. The paint you are looking for is NLA from Porsche. I've been told that if you can find a body shop that has the Glasuralt paint system they will be able to mix you up some. I'm about to have some repaint work done and I'll be glad to let you know if the body shop I use would be willing to ship a quantity of paint to you. Send me an e-mail or pm.

Good luck with the resto...post some pics for us.
