2.7 MFI Engine Problem
Hi. I have a 1972 2.4E fitted with an engine built to 2.7 Carrera spec, correct 2.7 MFI pump, with 2.8 pistons. The engine pulls beautifully till about the 5300-5500 rpm, when it will suddenly loose power and retard dramatically. Easing off the accelerator will have it functioning again as long as it is below the 5300-5500 rpm level. The fuel tank had been cleaned out and lines checked, fuel filter changed. The electric fuel pump pressure on the output side was measured at 8 psi. Having checked that factory specs for the pump output is 12psi plus/minus 3 psi, which makes minimum acceptable at 9 psi, I have installed another bosch pump and had increased pump pressure to about 15 psi, but it did not solve the problem. MFI belt renewed and position checked- correct. My mechanic now thinks it could be the CD box or the MFI pump. Before I do any more work, has any member experienced this before? Any opinions will be most welcomed. Many thanks, Billy.

I'd start with dwell and then ignition timing. Search for check measure adjust for tuning the MFI. Lots of good stuff there.

Sparrrrrrk!
Check the dizzy. Advance? Vacuum leaks? I'm just sayin'. |
Billy,
You can ask the Forum Modorator to combine this thread with the other one on the same subject, eliminating this and duplicate posts. This makes searching more productive. Best, Grady |
Have you checked fuel pressure as well as fuel volume?
