Couple of Horny Questions

#1 My horn honks when the car is off but only rarely when it's running.
Why?

#2 Are there other horn options for the same kind of sound I have in my '76?
(I would like them more compact for my motorcycle.)

A pair of 993 Bosch horns have a penetrating yet melodious sound (same high/low harmonics as the early horns), are light, tiny and way cheaper than the metal trumpets. Think I got a pair for $60 or so new when my sole remaining trumpet started sounding like a strangled kitten and then stopped..

Make sure they come with the weatherproofed specialist electrical connector kit.

There's a set of Hella horns that's much smaller, and about as loud. I don't think it sounds quite the same though.

The original horns are pretty fussy when they start to go bad, it's possible that yours are just getting old and the vibration when the car is running causes them to not work. You should definiitely clean your electrical connections at the actual horns and see if that helps.
