Relocating ground strap

I need to move the battery ground strap on my 911SC. Rust and corrosion have gotten the best of the ground connection point and until I get into some major body work I am going to relocate the ground strap to prevent being stranded. I drive the car quite a bit especially during the cold months, less traffic here and it runs much better with colder dense air. I plan on picking a good rust free bolt going into the body/frame close enough for strap to reach battery. My question to the forum is this, are there any other issues I need to think about.

The groung is currently holding on by a sliver of metal

The battery tray itself doesnt have any problems

Thanks in advance.

relocating the ground strap is no problem. Make sure you have a direct ground , not one via the fender or other attached components. Use a large star washer on both sides of the sheet metal. That way the washers bit into the metal and give good contact.

No problem. I welded my new one on Just used a simple metric bolt. pick your favorite spot, clean to bare metal and weld away. Bolting will work, too.

You should still get in there and clean that rust up and coat it with something....

If I were to wire brush and otherwise remove as much rust as possible and then coat it with POR15 do you think it would slow down the rust until I could get to cutting and replacing sheet metal?
I plan on trying to do the work myself.
