New around here

Ladies & gentlemen,

after many years of planning & scheming, not to forget saving, and trying to convince the family treasurer I have finally managed to fulfill a childhood dream.
For some inexplicable reason I have always wanted to drive a Porsche, but I also always knew it was going to be an SC or a Carrera.

Initially I wanted something that I could drive and at the same time have some fun fixing it up, but then I came across this 1988 Cabrio. No rust (at least not that I could find), engine just had a top end rebuild, interior & body in great shape ...

I could not resist. I bought it to drive it, drive it some more, and look after it. There are no plans to modify it, unless it serves to conserve the substance. Let's see if I can keep it in good shape for the next 20 years.

Now I actually look forward to the drive to work - at least whenever I drive the Porsche - and arrive with a smile.

While the car is in top shape I have already identified a number of smaller things I want to fix, and I'm sure I'll rely on your advice & guidance soon enough.

Cheers

Georgie

Good on you Georgie.

Many here, myself included, know that 'inexplicable reason' well.

Welcome.

Welcome! I have a RoW 85 cab that is your twin sans the rear tail. Is your car a US or RoW model? It has the RoW side markers up front along with the RoW rear bumperettes. What is really puzzling is the right fender has an antenna as that was discontinued in 1985.

Welcome, Georgie!

Thats a lovely looking 911!

Yes, as noted previously, is that a fender mounted antenna?

It is definitely RoW: it is Australian delivered, which is good for me because I live in Sydney. I don't think the picture clearly shows the RHD.

I was also puzzled by the antenna, since the car has a window antenna as well. Looks like a PO installed it to get better reception in OZ. I'm not too happy about it to be honest, I could have done without the extra hole in the bonnet, but at least it is very well made.

Mystery solved.

I am envious of your location. I suppose a rag top is a perfect choice in Australia. Here I could probably drive top down only a dozen days per year. I am so tired of the dark, damp and cold climate.

What do you think why I moved here ... I'm originally from Austria.

Great looking car. The RoW models are very cool, while some people don't know the difference, it is up to us enthusiast to spot those sorts of things. Welcome!

Welcome to the dream come true club. Black beauty also, like mine. You might want to hunker her down a little to euro height or a so. Enjoy

I am just curious, is it a two seater? I believe that all Australian delivered cabs were two seaters due to Australian seat belt laws.

yes, it is registered as a 2 seater.
i have had a word with the guys i usually get my pink slips (that's what these things are called in Oz) and they seem to think they can give me a blue slip that will allow me to register it as a 2+2 seater.
will try either this or next week. fingers crossed.

I am led to believe that ROW (rest of world) doesn't mean Australian, USA, Japanese,Swiss etc. delivery due to those countries special regulations but mainly European/German delivery spec cars.

Fine looking car Georgie; congratulations mate. I too joined this club recently, and will probably have that same silly smile on my death bed just to have had one of these cars.
