Brake warning light - help

Does anyone know anything about the brake warning switch situated on the brake master cylinder?
I've recently fitted a new master cylinder to my 73T but I cannot stop the warning light flashing. It should mean that either there is a loss of pressure in the hydraulic system or the handbrake has not been released.
I know it's not the handbrake side as I've disconnected that electrical circuit and the warning light still flashes.

I've bled the brake system several times and the brakes appear fine so I don't think there are any leaks in the system or air.

Yet still that warning light flashes!

Anyone got any experience of these things?

Thanks,
Harvey

There is a plunger switch under a rubber boot on the side of the M/C. Push it in. Also, the new M/C cone with a one wire switch. Wire the hot lead to the switch and the brown to a ground nearby. I put a large ring connector on the M/C mounting bolt and plug the brown into that.

Sometimes the wires are so discolored that you can't tell the ground from the hot. A simple 12v light tester will show which is hot with the key on. You sure don't want to wire your hot lead right into the chassis!

BTW, welcome to PP Forums.

Thanks for the info.
I'll take the old 2 pole switch out tonight and fit the new single pole switch.
When I tried this new switch before I didn't realise that I had to remove rubber boot and push plunger in. What's this plunger for?

regards
Harvey

The plunger is part of the brake light warning system. At one time I knew how it worked, but all I can tell you is that if the piston goes too far, the plunger pops out and the light comes on. You don't HAVE to use the single pole pressure switch, it's just that today they are shipped with the SP.

Finally, it's working.
Thanks for your help, you were absolutley right about the plunger on the switch. Once I pressed this in the warning light stopped.
What is interesting is that I've not read anywhere about setting the plunger.
