1969 Project resources
Hi all-
My first post to this forum. I'm a 356 guy who just picked up a '69 911E project. It is running but should be stripped and gone over. My intent is to return to original, with an emphasis to improve safety and performance that can still look stock. I'm not totally inept, having done a bare metal restoration on my Roadster. I just need to learn what to do with 2 extra cylinders, 12 volts and this MFI thing... I'm looking for some good resources for a novice 911 guy. What are the best books to buy? Is there a source for wiring diagrams/electrical schematics? Are there any good blogs you could point me at?

Welcome Ron,
I would suggest using the "search" button. There are tons of 911E's here. Seems like every other person has one. Also, you might want to get Wayne's book - 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911. It's worth a bunch in terms of some individual things. He also has a book out on rebuilding your 911 engine. Best of luck with your project, & be sure to let us look at some pictures. Any specifics can be covered on the board or through the search button.

Beautiful 356!!! Im in the process of doing a full resto on my 70 911t also. Like others have said, you will find a ton of info here. Also check out early S registry also. Parts are also very plentiful here at Pelican. The host has great prices and service on new parts and the members are always selling stuff at good prices. Just be careful, the classified parts board moves VERY fast and if you see something you need act quickly or it will be gone. Shaun (Shaun 84 targa, the first post after yours) also has a ton of used parts and is very honest with great parts and prices if you need anything. Welcome to the group! Mark

A bunch of us have been down this road. I suppose if you have specific questions you could do the search thing. To help on that, if it's electrical, use Early_S_Man as the author of the post. He did not start many threads, so make sure you choose the "show as posts" option.
Others have posted their specifics. Suspension would be Chuck Moreland. TRE Motorsports (TREcup) is a wealth of early car info and hot rodding. I could go on all night. I'm listed as a welder in many threads. Someone else take over.... |

My perspective. This is a forum with a wide range of abilities and opinions. Some valid, some preferential, some wives tales, some with commercial interests. It all reaches the same audience without a filter. Sorry, but true.
I would get a couple of reference books to bone up on the basics of the platform. Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook is good as is Wayne's Engine Rebuilding book. There are several others. I'd use this forum to solicit recommendations for specific questions not addressed by those books and to get a second opinion, then carefully weigh the responses. After awhile, you'll get the hang of what works and what's not recommended. Many forum contributors regurgitate what they read and hear; not bad if the information is actually valid. Much better if the person who offers their perspective actually performed the work. Even better if the person who performed the work provided a good explanation why. BTW, your car looks very nice. Another observation. Only in the sphinctor-tight world of 356 owners would an example like yours be labeled an "outlaw", as if there's a sacrosanct law against modifying an early Porsche, any Porsche. i call my 911 a bastard/outlaw... the outlaw 356 crowd is a proud group
lol great looking 356, love the colour, makes me wish i did a pastel colour on my 911. you seem very capable...starting here will save you time, ask any question you have and within a day you'll have a ton of responses! as sherwood points out sometimes people speak out of turn... but usually the next poster will point that out... the glory of open forum.
