Cool watercooled guy

I know this is hardly a technical thread, but this made my day and I thought I'd brag a bit. I parked my 77 outside of work today. Looked later and saw a fellow walking around it. The car is definately nothing special, but sometimes gets attention. I went over and said hello, we talked a good while about the car, the entire time I was beaming with pride in my car. The guy seemed to know Porsche a bit. Eventually I caught a glimpse of a black 997 gt3 parked a hundred or so yards away, and I directed the attention of my new admirer to the stunning car. Long story short, it was his. Dude had a $130,000 fantasy car and was looking over my 32 year old, $8,000, rather unremarkable car. He even said he'd like a ride sometime. I told him if he liked my car so much, if he were to come up with a little boot, we could work out a trade. He also had a sense of humor. Not all water cooled guys are snobs.

Most early 911's are being sold for more than used early boxsters nowadays, so dont think that newer necessarily means better. The SC and Carrera's are marvels, and very unique. The early Carrera is an icon, a statement of taste. I bought my Carrera from the owner of a pharmaceutical company, who opted for the 84 Carrera over a newer 996 when he made the choice.

No, they're not all bad. I can across a 996 in the mall parking lot a few weeks ago. I flashed my lights, and waved him on (at the intersection). He flashed his, and waved me on more vigorously. So, I went on, and parked. He followed me and parked next to me.

Turns out to be some 19 year old kid in a '99 996. His dad had a SC, and he appreciates them. We talked a a bit walking into the store, and I thanked him for recognizing the oldies.

Then I cursed him for being a 19 year old cruising in a Porsche

On that note, I hope that my Porsche is finished by the time im 19

That's 2 years from now, I really doubt it but hey, miracles can happen. (Mine wont be anything as spectacular as a 996 though)

And bell911; my dad has a 66 mustang and we're in Australia, whenever we go driving around and we see a Ferrari or a Porsche for that matter, their heads always follow the car as we go past. I think old cars are respected for lasting so long
