SC - Carrera Sway Bar Specs

I'm confused.

I believe the sway bar sizes went from 20/18 (F/R) to 22/21 in 1896. In other words, they were 20/18 in 1985, and then 22/21 in 1986. Correct?

Then, the next year, the G-50 transmission came out. Did these cars (with the G-50) have a different kind of sway bar?

I am trying to upgrade a 1978 SC. I have been told that Carrera sways will work well, and I wonder what model year(s) of Carreras to look for.

Yes they did change in 1986 to thicker bars.

For the upgrade ideally you would want '86 bars, but the later G-50 bars will also work. The only difference is that the G-50 rear sway bar will hang lower to get around the bigger G-50 transmission. If I recall correctly Noah did this to his car and he loved it. I have '86 bars for my car, but I've never driven my car.

You ask about sway bars but give specs on torsion bars ...... Which is it?

Nope, those are sway bar diameters in millimeters.

All '86-'89 22/21mm sway bars work, great upgrade for street & occasional track.

FWIW- on my street car I am still running the original rear mounts w/ 22/21 s-bars. No issues after 8 years and occasional track use.

Thanks, guys. I've sourced some '87 sways. They should work nice with my fresh shocks and 22/29 torsion bars. Woohoo!

If I break a sway bar mount, I'll fix it.
