915 Asymmetrical upgrade question

Hello all,

I've been reading so many 915 rebuild posts that my eyes are starting to bug out! My 915 is out of a '74 911 that sees a lot of autocross use for now and will eventually enjoy some track time.

Among other things, I am planning on doing the 1st gear Asymmetrical Hub Update. Is there a similar update for the other sliders/hubs that would be worthwhile?

Thanks for any and all advice!
Matt

Matt,

Welcome to the Forum
You will find a lot of help here.

No, the asymmetrical engagement teeth are for 1st gear only.
There is an improver hub and sliding sleeve for the 3-4 gears that is stronger.

As you prepare for your rebuilt, collect all the posts and published manuals. You will need to make or borrow a few special tools. It is useful to find a junk (not rebuildable) 915 to practice on.

Best,
Grady

Grady, Thanks for the info. It appears that the asymmetrical upgrade parts are just the stock parts for '77-'86.

For the improver hub and sliding sleeve for the 3-4 gears, do you know if it's the same deal (the stock parts for '77-'86) or is it an improved part for the early box? Does that make sense?

Thanks for your assistance,
Matt

Yes to both.

Grady
