Engine Sheetmetal - Grommet for Starter Wires ??

Please see the highlighed area in the photo below. It seems as though there should be a grommet or some type of filler in this openening where the starter harness passes through the sheetmetal. I'm pretty sure this sheetmetal part is from a 3.2, as that is where it shows up in the PET with the cut-out area. Prior years show this area filled in. I've looked through PET for something that looks like it should go there, but haven't found anything.

Does anyone know what belongs in the space and/or the part number?

Thanks

Joe

HI Joe,

You're right, there is a square rubber 'grommet' that slides/keys onto the sheet metal there. The starter harness passes through it. My SC sheet metal is the same as the pic. you included. Not sure about a part #. I'd bet it is likely a part of the harness in PET. Maybe someone has their engine out and can look at their grommet to see if there is a part # molded into it...then you can see about ordering it separately.

Thanks Cooper -- good point about it possibly being part of the harness. Sounds like a trip to the local Porsche yard is coming up.

Likely, I'm looking at PET right now...looks like it is part of the harness. Either a junkyard item or if someone has one out of their car...maybe a part#.

I have had luck with getting specific #'s off of 914 and 911 boots/grommets before. Often they are VW or Audi part #'s. Porsche can sometimes order them as seperate replacements though.

Here are a couple of pictures of what the grommet looks like. I had the engine out of the SC last summer for a clutch.
