Speaker info needed for center top dash mount speaker
I need to replace the single speaker in the top of the dash in my '73. Does anyone know of a possible source for these? The size is approximately 9" x 4".

We make a replacement speaker for your dash. Since that speaker is NLA and if you find an NOS or original it would still only be a single cone speaker (poor sound). We manufacture a replacement speaker, straight drop in, no mods needed, with two 2-way speakers. This allows you to hook up the two front channels w/o adding speakers to your doors. Sound is very good by itself or if you want a little more you can add the complete speaker enclosures we sell for the rear two channels. Enclosure is 3 inches high, 8 1/4 wide, and 11 1/4 long, they fit under some seats or you can install them in the rear footwell, on top of the rear seat area (seats folded down) and some customers put them on the rear parcel shelf. Dash replacement speaker is $95 plus ship, rear speaker enclosures are $119 a pair plus ship. What radio head unit are you using? We also make a single speaker dash unit in both 4 ohm and 8 ohm. I think if you do a search on 911 dash speaker you can see some Pelican members have ordered from us with satisfaction. Call us M-F 9-5 PST 949-722-1084 or 1-877-435-6911

Hi Charles,
Just so there is no confusion about what I need: My radio is a Blaupunkt mono. One channel. No door speakers planned. Do you have any web site info to look up your single speaker? Or photos you can email, so I can see what's available? I know there are two sizes of speaker grille sizes for the early Porsches, and I don't know if there are two speaker sizes. I will need to verify actual dimensions. Thanks,

I didn't know there are two sizes of speaker grills? Send me your email address and I will email photos.

How far back in years are your referring to? The '69 to '73 grilles are all the same that I know of. They could be the same back further than that, say like back to the 3 hole 912 dash period. I'm pretty sure Charles has what you need.

There have been at least a couple of threads over the last few months with folks looking for decent replacement speaker grilles where this issue has come up. As late as '70, there are two different length grilles, one 10" long, and one 9 1/2" long. I have one of the 9 1/2" variety I would like to replace (please, no remarks w/ obscene connotations), and several folks have offered to sell some of these grilles, but they always seem to be the 10" variety. Another Pelican has posted with the same problem, also on a '70 year model, IIRC.

More info for those interested...
Charles and I are exchanging emails on a replacement speaker - Thanks, Charles...
Here are some links that speak to the differences in speaker grille sizes. See this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/437974-show-me-your-speaker-grills-seriously.html#post4265612 Here is one for a 10”: Nice speaker grill $125.00 And another: FS: Dash Speaker Grill from a 73 And a photo of the 9 1/2" version. Maybe the dash panel shrunk? ![]()

Wow! I always thought it was just manf. variation. But those are large differences. They must have just bought whatever various dash makers had lying around or something.
