Heated windshield in SC?

Hello,
The paintshop guru said my windshield had heater elements in it, small wires, etc.

I don't see any switches for windshield heat. Was ist?

You do indeed have a heated windshield. You need to pull out the defroster knob located above the radio to activate it, if it is in fact hooked up.

I had a 77 with the heated windshield and as I recall it worked with the defogger which heats the rear window and the outside mirrors

Are you sure the wires aren't actually the embedded radio antenna?

Uhmm. Interested, I plan to replace my 250,000 mile screen with a heated one...

I think the Carrera pull-out defroster knob twisted to activate the front screen heat, didn't know it was an option for a '77...

Strange will check my owner's manual. I don't recall this feature?

From the Red Book, option M443, heated front and rear windows and tinted windows was available from 74 on.

It's hard to see, but If you look at the bottom 1/3 of your windshield on a flat plane in the sunlight, you will see the very small wires across the length if you have the option.

I've got the heated front windshield as well. This year I have to re- and re- my windshield to get at a rust problem. I seriously want to avoid damaging the glass and the little wire connectors. Before I start cutting out the windshield gasket and pushing out the glass, does anyone know which side the defroster wires are connected?
