sandblasting valve covers
I have a bunch of valve covers that I plan to paint in various color combinations -- silver ones, black crackle ones, maybe red crackle ones.
- I got a rough price guesstimate of $10/cover for sandblasting from a local shop. Does that sound high to anybody? 2nd Question: I also have a couple of Mg valve covers that will be turned into Art Objects (such as paper towel holders). Is sandblasting too harsh? i.e. will destroy the Magnesium surface? There doesn't seem to be any soda or CO2 blasting around here - despite our elaborate local infrastructure of tofu, coffee, wine, and beer industries... re the Magnesium covers -- I stripped a set of those a couple of years ago, and the paint on them was some of the toughest I've ever encountered. Thick and plastic-like. I think that any media that would take it off would really nuke the magnesium. I used paint stripper, and even went through a couple of those before I got decent results. Joe
