Question Was my Carrera born with a duck or a whale?

It's a 1974 US Carrera. (obviously)

When I bought it, it came with a Whale - an original Porsche one.

It looks very original, the engine bay lights and all.

The VIN is 9114400127.

According to Porsche, the production date is 10.1973 and it was delivered with option "473 rear Spoiler" and "482 lamp in the Enigine bay" (among others).

But was this the whale???

I lean towards the thought, that the original duck was replaced at some point, but what do you guys think?

I'd think that the ducktail was original. Didn't the whaletail first arrive a year later?

I've been told, that some 74s came with the whale... and all the German ones did.

Duck or duck delete.
The whaletails started to appear in the last month of MY '74 production ie July '74.
A friend has a '74 Carrera with such a tail and has confirmed its authenticity with Porsche.

Cheers,
Dennis.

Dennis is correct.

I bought my '74 Carrera new and had the option to delete the ducktail.

Allright, it looks like I need to find myself a ducktail... I like the look of the duck better too.

Thanks for your input.

As already stated, 1975, 1st year of the whale tail. Only 395 of these came to the US. I have #81

So once you delete the ducktail from a 1974 Carrera you're left with fender flares and Carrera decals?

If I'm not mistaken, the US version didn't get a special engine...did it get a special transmission at least, or suspension?

Thats correct (along with the 911S running gear).

US versions got the same 175HP engine and chassis as the "S" versions.

Easy to upgrade, tho,......
