Porsche Crest Anyone with tow dolly experience?

Just a quick question for anyone with experience towing a Porsche with a tow dolly. What's the better way to do this: front wheels on dolly towing forward or rear wheels on dolly facing rearward? The car in question is a 914 but advice on early 911 towing would be useful as well.

General practice is to always lift the drive wheels off the ground for anything more than a very short distance. Gears are meant to be driven in one direction, and flat towing induces the loads on the opposite side of the gears. And there's a potential lubrication issue too, though I'm not familiar enough with the reasoning here.

Of course the challenge is lifting the back end, then locking the steering wheel so the front tires can't move and are pointed straight ahead. I've seen towing companies use a device to lcok the steering wheel in place too.

Rent a proper U-haul trailer if possible. Cheap. Easy. And safe.

If you don't have a steering lock on the car, tow it with the front wheels on the dolly. You don't want the car to be whipping around the corners.

Back wheels on the dolly, tie down wrapped around the steering wheel and door panel to keep the steering from moving, and plan ahead! You CANNOT back up. <-------ask me how I know

forget the tow dolly (tow it with the front on the dolly if you must)

get a nice custom made tow bracket (attaches to the front of the torsion bar mounts and then use a very inexpensive tow bar....works like a charm. there is no harm done to the car in either form of towing.

towing all four down or with a dolly will not cause harm to the tranny, CVs, axles or anything else.

I have two friends with 911s one uses a dolly and one tows flat....both are track cars....both have been towing this way for many years with no issues.
another friend has been flat towing his 914 track car for over 20 years....with no problems
I towed my 914 track/ax/street car for over 3,000 miles with no problems.
I have a 25 year long friend that is a Porsche trained Mechanic that towed his 914-6 with a dolly with no issues...
