head temp sensor when to replace?
 

I have an 85 carrera. I checked the head temp sensor, it is the two wire type. I have measure the resistance with an ohlm meter and it is to specs. The car runs great with 170k on the clock. Should it be changed out as a matter of good maintenance practices? Will it get me stranded if it fails and is there a get home method if it fails?

The two wire version is the update from the old one-wire sensor.

Check the fuel pump/dme relay under the seat as that is more likely to fail. I still see original relays on 3.2 cars, it's only a matter of time......

if you have the updated one and the resistance checks out is there any other reason to replace it? JL

I would say in you have the engine out or are "in there", I would replace it. Mine rendered me nearly immobile at 55k but at 15 years of age. Agree with the DME relay comments too. Ken

Maybe it's just me, but it almost seems as rational as replacing your DME control unit while your driver seat is out.

I know that a failed control unit will also stop you dead in your tracks too.

And don't forget the fuel pump as long as the car is in the air.

Where does it end? What happened to AAA?
