machining question
This is actually for my 912, I am doing a free-flow conversion like the one described on this link. What method would you use to block the oil galley (labeled "C") . Sorry for the 912 content, but you guys have always come through for me on the 911.

Can you get to the open end of 'C' and drill and tap for a plug?
|
I was thinking either that or machine a plug slightly oversized and heat the cover to create an interference fit. Any thoughts on which would be better?
|
The method of plugging would depend on if you ever needed to open, or gain access to "C" again.
If so. Drill, pipe tap, and pipe plug. If not, insert a plug of the correct material and weld closed |
This one is testing my memory, I did my 912 engine about 6 years ago. I used a threaded piece of alum and threaded it into the oil pump outlet passage and ground it smooth within the pump gear area, never to be removed. I cracked my case taping the outlet so be careful, ended up welding in the outlet fitting in the third case part, work just fine. I used the Canton oil filter. This is a great upgrade, it filters your oil just before it hits the mains.

Tell me about the canton oil filter, I'm not familiar with that name.

Here is the original setup with the HP-1 filter which I never used, I set it up so the filter mounted to the back of the engine, it was replaced with the canton (blue filter) with replaceable cartridges.

I was planning to mount my oil filter in the left rear wheel well. I've never seen one mounted like yours. Is there an advantage to doing this way?
|
Its just makes a nice neat, clean setup plus there is no pressure drop through the long lines. Remember this is the oil that needs to go direct to your crank: Shorter the better. Canton also has remote filter setups too:
