Question seat belt removal

I am stripping my 1971 911T coupe in preparation for painting. I used to think I would score fairly high on a mechanical aptitude test. However, I feel really stupid posting this question (my first ever - on any subject - in any forum !!) on what is a highly skilled technical forum. I can not find a way to remove the protection cap (901.803.107.20) to expose the seat belt attachment bolt on the door/window post behind the seat(s). I have searched these forums for some hint to no avail. I have reviewed all the standard upgrading and restoration manuals again to no avail. Even my factory maintenance manual does not address how to remove this seat belt attachment. Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

I hope these pictures will show that the protective cover is a single molded piece of plastic; it does not split apart. Nor will it slide up, or down. Nor will the "top" peel back to expose the bolt behind it - the molded plastic extends around and behind the bolt - somehow - I think. Which is why I can't figure out how to remove it and so have turned to this forum in search of some help.

p.s. although I am doing all the mechanical work of removing everything from the car, I am not doing the painting - I will send it to a professional paint shop for that.... blue metallic.

What you need to do is get a real thin, or thin down a 17mm open end wrench and slide it up between the belt and cover (top photo) to catch the bolt then spin the whole thing around to remove it.

Here are some I made:

I would say with a flathead screwdriver, gently slide underneath the cover and then it should slide down the belt and you should be able to get to the bolt. I don't think they would have installed it with the cover.

Yeah on my 69 i lifted off the cover with two screw drivers and slid it down to get full access to the bolt

Smile thanks !

Thank you cgarr !!!! The thin 17mm wrench did the trick. As the pics show, the protective cover does not peel back or otherwise come away from the attachment bolt. The only way to loosen it was by sliding the wrench up inside the cover alongside the belt. I doubt I would have thought of doing that myself... thanks for all your help.
