Early Front Turn Signals Driving Me Nuts
Anyone else driven crazy by the double dash arrows.
My turn signal housings are original, and the left front is currently the culprit. At one time they were for sale new from Stoddards, but I can't find them anymore. And if you go used, how do you know the ones you purchase are any better than what you've got? I understand the silver paint inside the sockets is conductive, but I can't see any breaks in the paint. Any suggestions?

Check the ground wires. 90 % of the time, it's a ground problem. I found that my lamps weren't making good contact on the sides. I cleaned the sockets and applied dielectric silicone. On a couple of really oblonged ones, I added some small brass shims.

Yes, This is on my list also. I did clean all the bulbs and sockets and used the grease also. I need to investigate further.

I found that adding grounding the housing with its own wire helped and was easy. Also make sure the bulb sockets are clean and conducting to ground really well.

Does the grease conduct electricity? Or does it perform some other function?
On another note, had anyone ever tried to change out the sockets from the housings with new?

I also suffer from double dash arrows, plus my "check seat belt" light also blinks when I hit the turn signals. The double arrows are so dim, this helps me know that the signals are actually working.

I had a low light single dash arrow constantly on. I went through the whole 9 yards including cleaning flasher connectors. So only a wild guess is that your expensive flasher is kaput. ps: A new flasher fixed single dash arrow .

Grease is a common bulb socket add on to prevent corrosion. It works great. Ask any marine mechanic. The high end method is specific dielectric grease like they used to use on the F-14 multiplex computer connectors. Pelican may sell it or you can order from www.waytekwire.com Otherwise any wheel bearing grease is fine.

Same problem driving me nuts for over a year, I have cleaned and checked wires still no luck. Turn signals seem to work from the outside but inside double arrows?

Ground problem on your instruments? Usually, it's at the lamp housings. Try a temporary ground made from alligator clips and a length of wire.

Already have a test wire made but never thought of using it for checking a ground. I will do that when I get time to.
