Exclamation engine, clutch, or flywheel problem?

I have put my engine in about 6 times. And every time it goes in the engine will not turn in order to put in the pressure plate bolts. but if I loosen the engine to transmission bolts the engine will turn.

My question is am I missing some thing like a Inspection plate, do Porsche's have those. Or is it another problem that I can figure out.

BTW A mechanic took my engine out and never put it back in, and lost half the parts.

My car is a 77 911 Carrera 3.0l

Maybe I don't understand your question correctly, but in your car don't you need to just bolt the pressure plate/TO bearing assembly to the flywheel before you try to mate anything to the transmission?

If you bolt your pressure plate up to the flywheel and it doesn't turn, it's possible the bolts you are using are too long, and catching on the ribs in the case behind the flywheel.

That's all I can think of, but I've only done it .5 times. Someone will chime in.

pressure plate is first bolted to the flywheel, evenly. use a splined guide tool to center the disc before tightening. when installing the engine to transmission, look through the hole in the bellhousing and guide the release fork into the groove in the throwout bearing. simple. some folks have placed the 6 hole spacer ring between the flywheel and crankshsft, which is wrong. it goes under the flywheel bolt heads, against the flywheel.

Some people dont know that the clutch lever or levers on the bottom of the trans have to be dropped in order to release the fork. I had an 88 turbo trans come here with the pressure plate still attached and levers still in place
