replacing window guide, what is the tape ..

That is on the top outside of the door and rolls down under the slot seal? Is it just really thick vinyl tape or something that I can get at a autobody supply shop, ( or Vons?). I would like to replace mine while I am in there.

O.K since nobody knows, I will just clean up what I have and put some RTV on the cracked spots.

i cant tell by your description what you are refering too....that could be why no responses.

photo would help

is it a seal? did you do a search?

crustychief 02-13-2009 02:22 PM

I searched. it is just tape on the outside of the door, it goes under the metal strip with the squeegee on it, I assume it is for added protection from the weather. I used some RTV and a lot of love, so I think it will be fine. I will post pics in a different thread since I documented the replacement of the window guide, and slot seal.

Hi Crusty,

I know what you are talking about. Not sure exactly what it is...however, it looks an awful lot like the 8mil thick (.008) clear bra material that I install.

Like you described, kind of a thick tape that the aluminum trim presses down over. I'll try looking in PET to see if they actually list a part #.

It seems like just an addditional seal or buffer to help the trim keep from moving around/vibrating.

Look at this thread.

Is that what you're asking about?

I've used a good quality electrical tape for years and it works fine.
