1988 Carrera Engine Whistle Left Side
Hi All,
I did all of the fuel lines on my 88 Carrera with the motor in the car. On reassembly I noticed that my 8mm socket was a bit wide and wouldn't go straight into the intake nut. I only loosened the drivers side intake when I did the job. I didn't take the intake off. When I tried to torque the 6 bolts down to 18lb I felt that 3 possibly stripped because of the angle of the socket head not being able to go in straight.. I now hear a light whistle when it is running. I will go to Porsche on Monday and get new nuts and I will also get a new 8mm thin socket and re torque. If I use the car with the whistle can I damage anything? The motor runs fine with no shudder. Thanks Jack 1988 Carrera Cabrio |

If air is being sucked in at the manifold there is a chance the mixture could become lean. That could hurt the engine. I'd wait till the manifold was tight and the whistle was gone.

So essentially you took it apart and reused the 21 year old gaskets?
When I took the manifold off some of the gasket stuck to the head and some to the spacer. I don't see how you will get it to seal without taking it all the way apart and cleaning the surfaces.
