how to remove the vent control
hello all,
not sure how to remove the vent controls in an early 911 (1970). I want to take out the metal strip with the basket weave, but I am stuck at the vent control mechanism. All help welcome. michael |
There should a bolt under the dash that holds the controls in place... there is a steel tab from the controls going back to it.
My car is a 78 so it may be different :) |
It is true that there is a bolt back up under the dash that will loosen the vent controls. Note where the big thick rubber washer goes when you disconnect it though.
To remove it completely I have had to remove the cables that go into the front trunk. Maybe someone has another solution, but I never saw any other way to do it. Without removing the cables the unit will come free and be mobile a couple of inches, but you won't be able to get it all the way out. I suppose you could disconnect the cables on the control unit but I have always found that difficult and with the cramped space I never saw an easy way to do that. Reinstalling the cables was easier than I thought it would be, and I even felt like I ran the cables back better than they originally were. Just adjust them and make sure everything is working before you put everything back together in the front trunk. |
