Vibrating interior rearview mirror
I just replaced my interior rearview (glass mounted) mirror with an early style mirror (the type mounted on the head liner).
But the new one vibrates quite a bit and maies it very hard to see stuff behind. Is there a trick to mounting it? I used self tapping screws. I don’t want to overtighten and strip them. |

Hello
Same thing happened to me. Needless to say there was no solution I could find for two years and eventually gave up and returned to using the windshield mounted mirror. I guess just the fact that the windshield is “floating” in a rubber moulding makes it absorb most of the shaking. When mounted directly on the chassis, as the early mirror is, there is just no way to absorb this natural vibration of the boxer engine. I tried several methods of intermediate means of damping and none really worked. Also the roof of the chassis is the furthest from the cars suspension thus farthest from the pivotal point and the displacement if the engines vibration. No wonder Porsche gave up un that idea by ‘69.
